Keeping the kiln within reach

A heads-up about a likely 15% pricing adjustment as we wait for the final APS rate details, and why keeping firing accessible still matters to us.

There is a lot of possibility in a shelf of unfired work. Cups waiting to become someone’s morning ritual. A glaze experiment. A piece you’ve spent longer on than you meant to. Getting that work through the kiln is the part we get to help with, and we want to keep that part within reach.

We also need to give you a heads-up about the cost of doing it.

The APS rate case is moving through the review process, and we’re preparing for higher electricity costs. The final rates and timing are still pending. Based on what we’re anticipating for the studio, we will most likely need to raise our pricing by about 15% to keep pace with the cost of firing.

That is our current estimate for Monsoon Fire’s pricing. We’re waiting for the final details and what they mean for our actual kiln costs before settling the amount and an effective date. For now, current pricing remains in place. We’ll share the confirmed prices and timing before the change takes effect.

The honest studio math is pretty simple: right now, what comes in is going toward what it takes to keep this running. Electricity, kiln upkeep, and the everyday work of caring for your pieces leave very little cushion. When those costs rise, we have very little room to absorb them.

We know firing is one part of your own studio budget, alongside clay, glaze, tools, and the time you put into each piece. Any increase matters. We’re sharing this early so you have some room to plan, too.

Keeping a kiln available to people who don’t have one of their own is still at the heart of Monsoon Fire. We want there to be room here for learning, experimenting, and making work you’re proud of.

Thank you for trusting us with that work. We’re glad we get to be a small part of what you’re making.

APS treats Labor Day as an off-peak holiday on qualifying time-of-use plans, which gives us room to consider a busier day at the kiln.

A gentler way to fire

A small studio update: simpler firing plans, quieter handoffs, and payment after the kiln has done its work.
