Monsoon FireKilns are wonderfully direct machines. They turn clay into something durable, and they use a serious amount of electricity doing it.
The Arizona Corporation Commission has now voted through APS’s roughly 14% rate increase. That is a real change in the cost of keeping a kiln hot, and it means studio firing costs are expected to rise with it.
That does not mean surprise charges or a new maze to get through. It means we are paying attention to the real cost of running the kiln and will keep any future price changes plain, visible, and connected to the work itself.
Monsoon Fire is still here to be a useful community resource: a place to get work fired without needing to own a kiln, navigate a membership program, or turn a studio errand into a whole production. The kiln gets paid for, the shelves get cared for, and more people get to keep making things.
For now, bring us work that is safe to travel. We will keep an eye on the numbers, and tell you plainly when they change.
